Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare is hosting a series of volunteer drop-in sessions at its Newhaven warehouse in Drove Road, offering information about available roles and how to get involved.The sessions will take place from Monday the 1st to Friday the 5th of June, from 10am through to 2pm and are open to anyone interested in volunteering. No booking is required.
The Newhaven warehouse is part of Raystede’s retail operation, which helps support the charity’s work caring for animals. Volunteers at the warehouse contribute to the processing, sorting and distribution of donated goods.
Roles available at NewhavenThe drop-in sessions will provide details on several different warehouse-based volunteering roles covering a wide variety of tasks including:
- Testing donated electrical items to ensure they are safe for resale and carrying out minor repairs where appropriate
- Identifying and preparing suitable donated items, including photographing and packing stock
- Completing research and investigation of donated items to determine value
- Sorting, organising and preparing donated goods for distribution and sale
- Assisting drivers with loading and unloading donations and transferring stock between locations
Donna Holford, Raystede’s Commercial Support and Development Manager explains: “These volunteer roles are primarily based at our Newhaven site and are suited to people who prefer practical, behind-the-scenes work while still supporting Raystede’s mission to help animals in need.
“Our volunteer recruitment event also coincides with National Volunteers Week, and so whether you’re passionate about animal welfare, looking to give back to your community, or simply curious about volunteering, our drop-in sessions provide the perfect starting point to learn more.”
The Newhaven drop-in sessions will highlight flexible and accessible volunteering options and attendees can find out how volunteering can help them gain new skills, meet like-minded people and make a meaningful difference.
