MAYOR OF SEAFORD BECOMES FIRST VOLUNTEER FOR NEW TRANSPORT CHARITY

January 26th, 2020.

Councillor Nazish Adil, the Mayor of Seaford, signed up to become the first volunteer car driver for the new Havens Community Car scheme scheme this week. The service will support residents from Saltdean to Seaford and surrounding villages.

Mayor Nazish expressed her support for the new charity and said she was looking forward to helping remove the road blocks for people unable to use public transport.

Volunteers for the scheme can donate as little as two hours a week and are reimbursed for their fuel expenses.

The scheme was launched after significant need was identified for journeys including transport for Havens residents to get to hospitals or clinics including Brighton or Eastbourne, evenings and weekends and daily living journeys that other charities or statutory organisations cannot currently meet the demand for.

The charity is registered with the national body for community transport, the CTA, and aims to have enough drivers recruited and trained to go 'live' as a service from April 27th.
