A WINNING PARTNERSHIP RESULTS IN ACCESSIBLE BEACH ACCESS BY SUMMER

March 13th, 2019.

Seaford Town Council has joined forces with campaigner Sam Taylor to make beach access a reality for all, fulfilling another feature of the Seafront Improvement Plan.

While Sam Taylor has been fundraising and using his social media skills to raise awareness, the Council’s Projects & Facilities Manager, Tony Jackson, has been meeting and instructing contractors, liaising with other interested parties such as the Environment Agency and colleagues at Lewes District Council, sourcing the necessary materials at the best price, and carrying out Risk Assessments to ensure the final access is safe for everyone.

The Environment Agency has worked with the Council to prepare the beach in readiness for the permanent decking to be put down and to plan the two-phase project.

The first phase will see permanent decking laid in place from a level access point on the promenade in the vicinity of the Martello Kiosk. This will be a permanent fixture and construction is due to start at the beginning of April.

Phase two will extend the access further out onto the beach by means of heavy-duty tiles. These will reach a point where the shingle drops away and will be in situ for the summer period only.

Special thanks must also go to The Builders Club who will be providing the decking and labour for phase one at no charge.
