Health Checks

Free Cooking Skills Classes

Learn basic cooking skills through the making of delicious meals in the SCDA Community Kitchen. Every session 10.30am – 1.00pm. One Tuesday a month, starting 12th March 2019. At Denton Island Community Centre, Denton Island, Newhaven, BN9 9BA

Grub Club

Come and learn to cook some tasty dishes with a friendly team of volunteers. Meals are given to community members in need. Every other Thursday morning. Open to everyone. Dish Dash Evening Cookery

Cookery with Matt
Friday 5th April 10.00am to 12.00pm, Denton Island Community Centre. Taught by a busy dad who can show you how to cook quick, nutritious meals. Children’s Bake-Off
Sign up with a team of friends or family. We supply the ingredients and recipes and you make the magic. Everyone wins. Thursday 11th April 2019, 10.00am to 1.00pm.

Spring Arts & Crafts Events
Saturday 13th April, 11.00am and 1.00pm, Déjà vu Café, South Coast Road, Peacehaven. Come by yourself, with friends or family to make and take home some springtime themed arts and crafts, enjoy a chat and a cuppa.

Sugar Craft
One day workshop – try your hand at some basic sugarcraft skills. 10.00am to 2:30pm. East Sussex College, Denton Island, Newhaven

Drawing Course
This four-week course is suitable for complete beginners or those with little experience of drawing. Develop your skills using a range of materials. All materials provided. Tuesdays 30th April, 7th, 14th and 21st May, 10.00am – 1.00pm. East Sussex College, Denton Island.

Glass Painting

Active 10 – Walk your way to health
Tuesdays, 1.00pm, Newhaven. Contact us to find our starting points – 01273 519 149. Boost your health, mood and energy. You can walk simply for the pleasure, company and fresh air or use this as stepping stone to build up your strength and fitness to do Couch to 5K. You can also track your minutes using the One You Active 10 App on a smartphone.

Diabetes Support Group
1st Saturday of every month, 2.00pm – 3.30pm. The Archway, 1 Blatchington Road, Seaford, BN25 4JS. Do you have Diabetes? Have you been recently diagnosed or experiencing it for a long time? Would you like to meet other people going through this same experience? Join us for a cup of tea or coffee and a chat at our informal group. It sometimes helps to know that you are not alone.

Greenhavens Network Meeting
Wednesday evenings quarterly, next date, time and venue TBC. We are delighted that the Greenhavens Environmental Network has gone from being an SCDA initiative to an independent group. Contact Karen at and/or join the facebook group ‘Greenhavens’ for further information.

Walk with a Ranger
Come along for a walk along the Downs, a Park Ranger will be with us, talking about the area. It will be walking up some inclines and uneven ground. Meeting at the junction between Palmerston Rd and Seaview Rd at the top of Mount Pleasant. At 1.00pm on Tuesday 2nd April. (If you want to join a walking group that uses flat routes and takes no more than an hour ask about our weekly walk.)

Underwater Experience
We will be arranging a day or two for people to experience the world underwater along our coastline. Wearing a VR headset you can explore our coastline chalk reef, marine life and interact with short-snouted seahorse and more. Dates to be confirmed during the Easter Holidays, please register your interest and we will keep you informed. Staying Connected with your device
Thurs 25th April to 9th May (3 weeks), 10:30am to 12:30pm. East Sussex College, Denton Island, Newhaven. Brand new course! BYOD (Bring your own device). You’ll learn how to best use your smartphone or tablet device to stay connected (via communication apps or video calling, accessing emails), stay safe (passwords and scam avoidance) and getting practical tasks done like making doctors’ appointments, banking or shopping. or 01273 519149
