NEWHAVEN PRAM RACE REVIVAL

January 23rd, 2019.

The Newhaven Pram Race is set to make a return on Easter Monday, the 22nd of April 2019 at 12 noon on West Quay. The brainchild of Newhaven’s Young Mayor, Huey Cripps, the Pram Race was an annual feature in the town's calendar in the 70s and 80s.

The race will follow a winding course along the riverside, starting by the RNLI Boathouse and finishing at the north end of Huggett’s Green.

So, get together with your friends or workmates, make your own pram, dress up and join the fun. Teams of all ages over 13 years of age are invited to enter.

Prizes will be awarded for the best looking pram and team, the fastest pram along the route and the pram which is closest to a secret set time.

Entry forms and rules are available from the Newhaven Town Council website at www.newhaventowncouncil.gov.uk/news or from the Town Council offices at 18 Fort Road, Newhaven. Tel: 01273 516100

Sponsorship opportunities are available for local companies and there will be stalls on Huggett’s Green. If you’d like to sponsor the event, or have a stall, contact Newhaven Chamber of Commerce at  office@newhavenchamber.co.uk or tel: 01273 517544.

All money raised will go to the Young Mayor’s charities which are the Sea Cadets and the Bhopal Medical Appeal.

The photos of old pram races in Newhaven were taken by local residents Robert Horscraft and Ivor Gillett.
