GET ON BOARD WITH THE RNLI NEWHAVEN - VOLUNTEERS WANTED

August 28th, 2017.

Volunteers from Newhaven lifeboat station are looking for new crew members and support volunteers to be part of their life-saving team and are inviting Haveners to their recruitment open day on Saturday the 9th of September.

The RNLI at Newhaven lifeboat station is calling for people from all walks of life to help crew the lifeboat and assist with launch and recovery when they go on service. Paul Legendre, Coxswain, is keen to stress that you don’t need to have sea-going experience to get involved with the RNLI.

He explained: "Only ten per cent of the RNLI’s new recruits come with professional maritime experience. Our lifeboat women and men come from all backgrounds.

"We are looking for anyone aged 17 to 60 years old who is living or working within ten minutes of the lifeboat station. You need to be willing to volunteer some of your free time to join, which is what I believe to be one of the most exhilarating and rewarding voluntary services anywhere."

The RNLI provides training to turn ordinary people into lifesavers and by volunteering, people will gain great experience, knowledge and skills.

For those who don’t want to get involved on the lifeboat, there are many other volunteer opportunities with the RNLI in Newhaven, including assisting with visits, helping with fundraising events and supporting in the shop.

If you are interested in volunteering for the RNLI at Newhaven, you are invited to call into the lifeboat station at Newhaven Lifeboat Station, West Quay on Saturday the 9th of September anytime between 11:00am and 2:00pm.

If you’d like to get involved, but can’t make the recruitment day call the station on 01273 514143 or email newhaven@rnli.org.uk

Come and have a brew with the crew, a chat about what they do, have a tour of the lifeboat station and find out how you can help.
