STC PLANNING AND HIGHWAYS COMMITTEE UPDATE

February 9th, 2017.

Seaford Town Council’s Planning & Highways Committee meets every three weeks to discuss the planning applications submitted for consideration within the town. Lewes District Council is the local Planning Authority so make the final decision and Seaford Town Council is invited to comment on all planning applications as consultees.

At its meeting on the 2nd of February, the Committee considered ten planning applications.

All Committee meetings are open to members of the public to attend and if they wish to, make comment on any items on the agenda. At this meeting, members of the public objected to two items:

- Proposals to replace the warehouse at the rear of the listed building at 15-17 High Street with three new townhouses

- A scheme for a new industrial building to replace the existing waste transfer building at James Skips, Cradle Hill Industrial Estate.

On the High Street application, the Committee resolved to object on the grounds of it being overdevelopment, inappropriate design and unacceptable loss of a valuable town centre facility with commercial use.

On the Cradle Hill application, members supported the proposal for the new building on the amenity grounds as it should ensure that the operations have less impact on local residents. This was subject to the proviso that the building should be no higher than the existing building.

The Committee also considered proposals from East Sussex County Council’s Highways Department, as the local authority responsible for highways, for additional and amended parking and waiting restrictions at various sites in Seaford. It was part of a consultation exercise on a districtwide review.

Among the proposals which were supported were additional restrictions on Hawth Park Road to avoid current problems from parked cars blocking bus routes, and an additional time-limited disabled bay in Church Street for residents using the Post Office and nearby Doctor's Surgery.

The full agenda and minutes are available to view on the Council’s website HERE.

The next meeting of the Planning & Highways Committee is due to be held on Thursday the 23rd of February at 7.00pm in the Council offices at 37 Church Street, Seaford.
