NEWHAVEN LIFEBOAT LAUNCHED TO INFLATABLE WITH UP TO EIGHT PEOPLE ON BOARD

November 17 2016.

Newhaven’s Severn Class lifeboat RNLB David and Elizabeth Acland and her volunteer crew were launched on Tuesday 15th November at 9:00am to reports of an overloaded inflatable dinghy.

The vessel had been spotted by a passing motorist on the A259 Coast Road, who raised the alarm. It was thought the small craft was about half a mile from the shore mid-way between Peacehaven & Saltdean.

The lifeboat commenced a search in the calm conditions with excellent visibility. Only two fishing vessels were found in the area. After the inshore search by the lifeboat and UK Coastguards had searched the promenade, both were stood down and returned to station.

It is thought that this was a false alarm with good intent.

Newhaven lifeboat was ready for service at 10:00am.
