MARIA JOINS SEAFORD LIFEGUARDS

June 25 2016.

Local MP Maria Caulfield joined the Seaford Lifeguards last Sunday  to get an insight into the lifesaving organisation.

Seaford Lifeguards have been patrolling Seaford beach since 1970 and the service is run by a group of highly dedicated volunteers. They can be seen in their distinct uniforms on weekends between May and September, supervising swimmers and patrolling on beach buggies.

Maria was treated to the full lifeguard experience, first meeting the volunteers and then being taken out on the lifeboat, followed by a ride along the beach on the buggy.

Afterwards Maria commented: “I want to thank the Seaford Lifeguards for giving me a first-hand experience of their daily activities. This group of highly dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers provide a vital service for locals and tourists during the summer, and I am sure everyone appreciates the time they give up.

“The volunteers often put themselves at risk to save the lives of others and I would encourage anyone visiting the beach to drop past their station and say hello and thanks.”
