Newhaven Town Councillor Simon Barnes, who represents the Town Council on the Sussex Community Rail Partnership, has brought together a group of local business people to brighten up Newhaven Town station.

Partners including Paradise Park, the family run garden centre represented by saled director Mark Gilbert and Burleys, part of TCL group, grounds management team, plus station manager Andy Gardner. The partners have created a collection of six large wooden planters, given by Paradise Park, which add colour and beauty to the station.

The planters will be cared for on a weekly basis by Mark Tavener, Burleys contract manager and his team, together with Newhaven Town Council as part of its ongoing commitment to enhance the environment for the benefit of the local community and visitors to the town.

Speaking at the event to unveil the planters Cllr. Barnes said: “I am delighted with how well the partners have worked together to improve the look of the station and this is just the beginning of the partnerships plans.”

Station manager Andy Gardner added: “It is good to work with members of the local community on projects like this. I am very grateful to all partners for the generosity they have shown in supplying and caring for the planters and flowers. The partnership is part of Southern Railway’s work with local communities which oversees work and planting with a local focus at stations across the network.”
