SGN PROJECT UPDATE - SOUTH WAY (A259) NEWHAVEN

June 11 2016.

Important announcement on road closures from SGN:

As you'll be aware, we're working to upgrade our gas network in Newhaven town centre. We have completed the first two stages of our project, which saw us replace our gas main in Bridge Street and High Street.

We now need to replace a section of gas main in the A259 South Way at its junction with Church Hill. To ensure the safety of motorists and our engineers around our work area, we need to implement temporary lane closures in South Way at the Church Hill junction in two stages.

Following close consultation with East Sussex County Council, we will be carrying out this final phase of our project over seven nights.

We'll be working from Monday 13 June to Thursday 16 June between 8pm and 5am each night. We'll restart work after the weekend on Monday 20 June and work overnight between 8pm and 5am for three nights. The temporary lane closures on South Way will be lifted during the day and traffic will be able to flow freely.

During the first stage, our engineers will be working in the right-hand lane in South Way between the High Street and the central traffic island. Traffic wishing to continue around the one-way system will be diverted via the A259 Brighton Road to join the A23 at Brighton seafront and follow the A27 and A26 New Road into Newhaven.

We will move across to the westbound lane of South Way, across the Church Hill junction, for our second stage. There will be no access to the A259 Brighton Road from South Way and motorists travelling towards Brighton will be diverted via the A26 New Road, A27 and A23 to rejoin the A259 at Brighton seafront.

We appreciate that the noise from our essential overnight work may cause disruption to local residents. We will make every e?ort to ensure that noise is kept to a minimum. We’ll use sound barriers where possible to prevent noise from travelling from our work area and all excavation works will take place as early as possible in the evening to minimise disruption.

If you have any enquiries about this project, please call us on 01444 240 700 during office hours (Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm) or on 0800 912 1700 outside these times.
