DENTON COMMUNITY CHALLENGE SUMMER OF SPORT

May 31 2016

It’s coming! The 2016 Denton Community Challenge, the fifth to take place, and this year it promises to be even bigger and better than before. It’s all happening at the Avis Way recreation ground opposite Tates Garage which is next to Paradise Park on Saturday the 11th of June from 1.00pm through to 5.00pm.

In 2015 almost a thousand local people of all ages attended the Denton Community Challenge Howzat event. They enjoyed an afternoon of action-packed events for families and young children. In 2016 a record number of local clubs and societies active in the area are offering sporting challenges, putting on entertaining displays, or represented by stands offering fun for everyone.

The title is SUMMER OF SPORT in this  Olympic year, with the theme once more, of course, local sport.

By popular demand the climbing wall, the bouncy castle and also the giant trampoline will be making a return appearance together with other new and exciting attractions. There is also a rumour that there will be an attempt on an official Guinness World Record. Watch this space.

There will be lots of interesting stalls run by local organisations from the Scouts to sports clubs and local charities and, of course, admission to the Denton Community Challenge is free with a very small charge for taking part in some of the sporting activities.

There will be something for everyone on the field from the various stalls, plus a full programme of arena events and also a series of sporting challenges where children can win magnificent rosettes. The MC for the day will be popular local DJ and karaoke king Keith Johnson.

DCC has its own Facebook page with all of the details of what to expect and look forward to.

As before, the 2nd Denton & South Heighton Scouts – ‘Ralph Reader’s Own’ – will be running their outstanding BBQ.

There will also be a big raffle with many prizes including the first prize of a new Apple iPad Mini kindly donated by Keep It Clean Ltd.

The opening ceremony will be at 13.00hrs and will be performed by our new local MP, Maria Caulfield, MP.

The Denton Community Challenge is one of the largest charity events in our area with the proceeds being divided equally between these three local charities:

THE JAMES DANIELS MEMORIAL FUND -Set up after 19 year-old James’ tragic death in 2005 and it raises money through various events. Local schools and sports clubs are invited to apply for funds to assist the purchase of equipment and coaching aids to encourage the development of sporting activities for children and youth in Denton and the surrounding areas.

FRIENDS AND ASSOCIATES OF DENTON SCHOOL - FADS raise much needed funds to purchase many items for the school.

ST LEONARDS CHURCH, DENTON - One of Sussex’s historic churches dating back to 1288, is a Bible teaching church and serves the community in a number of ways.
