GREEN ETHICS TURN GOLD FOR LOCAL ESTATE AGENCY

An independent estate agency in Seaford is celebrating after being crowned the Best Environmental Business of the Year in the Seahaven Business Awards 2016.

Newberry Tully, in Church Street, picked up the award on Friday the 6th of May. The awards are organised by the Newhaven Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with Seaford and Peacehaven Chambers of Commerce.

The agency uses solar energy to power its office, an electric company car called Sparky, low energy LED lights and a policy of recycling as much as possible and has a strong track record of supporting community clubs and groups.

Company partners, Andrew Tully and Stephen Newberry, explained why being green is so important to them.

Stephen said: “We are always looking at ways in which we can make our business more environmentally friendly. Both Andrew and I are fascinated by how new technology can improve the way things are done and reduce the impact we have on the environment.

“We live and work in a beautiful part of the world and we want to do our bit to keep it that way."

Andrew added: “I have young children and by doing all we can for the environment and sustainability makes me feel as if we are doing something very positive for them and for future generations.”

The agency is also a big supporter of what it calls the area’s ‘social environment.’

Stephen added: “We believe that the social environment is really important to the area and that’s why we support so many local clubs and groups.

“Seaford is a special place and not just because of the beautiful beach and countryside which surrounds us.

“We believe the community spirit within our town is also something to be proud of and we’re delighted to lend a hand whenever we can.”

The judging panel included MPs Maria Caulfield and Simon Kirby, the Mayor of Newhaven Councillor Steve Saunders and the Presidents of the Newhaven,
