MAY DAY AT THE HILLCREST CENTRE

The Hillcrest Centre organised a fantastic family fun day on Sunday the 1st of May to celebrate spring arriving, and the weather was truly on our side. We had a beautiful sunny day to enjoy all the activities. There was Maypole Dancing, long rope skipping and tug ‘o war outside, and as you can see from the pictures Steve Saunders, Mayor of Newhaven was fantastic in getting involved with all the activities.

Inside the Hillcrest Centre the hall was full of market stalls with a broad selection of sale items. From shabby chic furniture to crystals, cards, plants and tie dye! Owls out and about came along with a large selection of owls, and there were storytelling sessions for all to get involved in.

Face painting and garland making were extremely popular with young and old wanting to get into the spirit of the event.

Free activities for the children included making a fire breathing pom pom dragon, decorating the green man and a portrait drawing competition with prizes.

The café was open serving delicious home cooked cream teas and refreshments.

And of course the day wouldn’t have been complete without our very own Jack in the green greeting people as they arrived.

We wish to thank Newhaven Town Council for awarding us a grant to allow us to organise this event and hope to run this every year as it proved very popular. Also many thanks to all the local business who donated prizes for our raffle. It was fantastic to see the community coming together and enjoying spending time on traditional activities such as maypole dancing and skipping.
