SEAHAVEN VETERANS AND ARMED FORCES DAY RECEIVES AN AWARD

May 1 2016.

At the recent Lewes District Unsung Heroes presentations at Newhaven Fort, the Chair of the District Council, Councillor Ruth O'Keefe MBE present a certificate and cheque for £100 to the Joint Committee that arranges the Seahaven Veterans and Armed Forces Day for the District of Lewes and surrounding towns and villages.

The committee consists of the Seahaven Branch of The Royal Society of St George, Seaford Town Council and the Royal British Legion. Receiving the award was chairman of the committee, Major Bob Peedle MBE and committee member, Councillor Linda Wallraven. Chairman Bob said "Armed Forces Day is a national event but it was started locally some years ago by the then Mayor, Tracey Willis. The Joint Committee took the event over a couple of years ago to extend its interest to a wider area. We are so grateful to the committee members who do so much to ensure that the day is a fitting tribute not only to those who are serving in today's armed forces but to all veterans."

This year's event will take place on Saturday 25th June, opening at 11am with the parade which is followed by an inspection by the Lord Lieutenant starting at 12.30. As before there will be many arena events and stalls from local charities and other organisations. There will be a fun fair as well as a display of military vehicles. The event is free and everyone is welcome. In 2015 surplus money was donated to each of the local cadet units and this year it will go to SSAFA and the Royal British Legion.
