NEWHAVEN LIFEBOAT LAUNCHED IN SEARCH FOR OVERDUE VESSEL

March 13 2016,

Newhaven’s Severn Class lifeboat ‘RNLB David and Elizabeth Acland’ and her volunteer crew were launched on Thursday at 01:30 to search for an overdue vessel.

Newhaven Coastguards had met a member of the public who reported a vessel belonging to their partner overdue. A description of the vessel and persons on board was established. The vessel was being collected for the first voyage by the new owners.

The last contact with the vessel had been south of Worthing pier. After that time no further contact had taken place.

Newhaven Lifeboat was tasked along with a Coastguard Rescue Helicopter and Shoreham lifeboat.

Shortly after Newhaven lifeboat started its search to the west of the main breakwater, news came through that the vessel had been found safely in Brighton Marina.

Newhaven lifeboat was stood down and returned to station at 02:00. The lifeboat was ready for service shortly afterwards.
