Sainsbury’s Newhaven customers chose RNLI Newhaven to be their Charity of the Year and the supermarket will be backing the annual Souper Winter Warmer fundraising event being held this Friday, January the 29th, at the Lifeboat House, Riverside, West Quay from 11.30am to 2.30pm.

The RNLI Newhaven volunteer lifeboat crew received a record 65 ‘shouts’ during 2015 and this will see the land crew of Newhaven & District Lifeboat Society start 2016 continuing to focus on education and the RNLI Respect the Water campaign. Alan Dempster, Chairman of the Society said, “Fortunately, fundraising experienced a successful year during 2015 and this provides the encouragement to achieve targets for the forthcoming year.”

Nationally, the RNLI has changed its main fundraising time of year to Mayday, but Newhaven also continues to celebrate the achievements of the local volunteer lifeboat crew by hosting the Souper Winter Warmer.
