MARIA CELEBRATES LDC STEP-BACK ON NEW HOMES PROJECT

December 11 2015.

Local MP Maria Caulfield has spoken of her delight following confirmation that Lewes District Council has agreed to look again at the New Homes Project covering Meeching Down and The Buckle Car park..

Following an amendment tabled by Conservative Councillor Wayne Botting, the council unanimously decided at a recent meeting of the Full Council to delay planning applications until the public could be fully consulted on the plans.

Speaking after the meeting, Maria said: “This is great news. As the local Member of Parliament I have repeatedly raised concerns surrounding the whole approach of the Council on this issue and made a number of representations to Lewes District Council.

"I am pleased that the council has listened to the concerns raised by myself and many local residents, and that common sense appears to have prevailed at last.”

The MP has been vocal in raising specific concerns relating to Hollycroft, Meeching Down, the Buckle Car Park and others.

Maria added: “I will continue to monitor this issue closely as there is clearly a need for more housing across the District, but as I have always said, it has to be done in conjunction with local residents.”
