FESTIVE FASHION SHOW SUPPORTS LOCAL CHARITIES

December 11 2015.

The Havens day club, run by Age UK East Sussex, hosted a fashion show on Wednesday the 2nd of December supported by three local charities – Age UK East Sussex, Sense and the House Project Centre.

Models for the day included staff, volunteers and members of the Day Club all wearing donated items. Following the show there was an opportunity to buy nearly new, good quality second hand and one off pieces including unique party outfits for the Christmas Season, plus winter coats and woollies and special gifts from a selection of accessories.

The Mayor of Newhaven, Steve Saunders, clients’ families and the local community were also in attendance, and all were treated with cups of tea and cake.

Age UK East Sussex has recently launched it’s ‘No one should have no one campaign’ to help older people feeling isolated or lonely become more connected with the local community. To raise funds there is a Furniture Warehouse in Newhaven, Homestores in Eastbourne and Brighton and charity shops selling clothes and accessories, jewellery, books and music including vinyl, in Battle, Bexhill, Lewes and two in Brighton in partnership with Age UK Brighton and Hove.

Sense supports and campaigns for children and adults who are deafblind or have sensory impairments and have shops selling antiques and collectables, books, bric-a-brac, clothes and accessories, electrical items, household items, jewellery items, music and DVDs in Newhaven, Hailsham and Uckfield.

The House Project Centre provides a meeting point and computer lessons for local people. They have two Community Resource Centres and shops in Peacehaven and Saltdean.

The aim of our Day Clubs is to reduce social isolation, improve older people's physical health and psychological wellbeing, promote independence and confidence and support people to live in their own homes for as long as they wish.

The clubs support people with a wide range of needs, including dementia, who need a little extra help to enjoy their day.

As well as The Havens in Newhaven and Peacehaven, Age UK East Sussex has Day Clubs in Seaford, Heathfield and Brede.
