NEWHAVEN ENTERPRIZE ZONE GETS GREEN LIGHT

November 25 2015.

The proposal to establish an Enterprise Zone in Newhaven has been given the green light with confirmation announced in today’s Government Spending Review.

Starting in April 2017 eight key strategic sites will benefit from Enterprise Zone designation with the aim of unlocking these for high value development, new investment and supporting the expansion of existing businesses. It will create and sustain at least 2,000 new full time jobs and deliver up to 55,000 sq metres of commercial floor space.

The eight sites identified will benefit from economic incentives and relaxed planning rules in favour of employment-related activities, facilitating business growth, creating new employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for local people.

Councillor Andy Smith, Leader of Lewes District Council said: “Enterprise Zones drive growth and job creation. It is fantastic news for Newhaven - we have been working with partners to secure this great opportunity to build on the town’s growing reputation as a centre for Clean, Green and Marine businesses. The Enterprise Zone will allow new companies to grow and develop and bring economic benefits to the town and the region.”
