NEWHAVEN PRIMARY SCHOOL JOINS UK’s DIGITAL PIONEERS AT DISCOVERY EDUCATION CONFERENCE

November 23 2015.

A Newhaven school has been chosen to speak at a major new digital education conference in London this Friday. Teachers from Harbour Primary and Nursery School have been asked to speak at Discovery Education’s DENapalooza conference aboard HMS Belfast this Friday – and will lead sessions to share their digital expertise with other schools present.

Teachers from Newhaven will share their work to develop children's communication skills using digital media such as green screen filming and radio production.

Over 65 of Discovery’s partner teachers will attend the event, which will showcase the latest strategies for using digital media in education. Staff from Harbour Primary and Nursery School will also network with members of Discovery’s global network of education professionals, including visiting teachers from the US.

This is the first time that a DENapalooza conference has been held in the UK. The event has already been running in North America for 10 years and the annual tour across the US and Canada typically attracts over 1000 teachers.

Schools from across London, the South East, Yorkshire and the Midlands, will be attending the inaugural UK event on Friday.

Christine Terrey, Head Teacher of Harbour Primary and Nursery School said: “We’re delighted to be invited to speak at the DENapalooza conference. We’ve been using interactive technologies such as green screen filming in our lessons for some time now, and they have had a huge impact in bringing learning to life for our pupils. We’re looking forward to sharing our knowledge with other progressive digital schools from across the UK.”

Susanne Thompson, Vice President and Head of Schools Partnerships at Discovery Education said: “We’re really excited to be bringing our flagship community-led conference to London for the first time. DENapalooza is a fantastic opportunity for schools that  are enthused about using digital resources to connect with one another, and share ideas and best practice.
