MARIA CALLS FOR LDC TO APPROVE FREE CHRISMAS PARKING IN NEWHAVEN

October 26 2015.

Local MP Maria Caulfield has called on Lewes District Council to acknowledge the benefit that dropping parking charges over the holiday period could have for Newhaven businesses, and has said that such a move could serve as a pilot scheme towards cutting all parking charges within the town, which Maria called for in August.

Maria said: “ I would like to see the Council encourage members of the public to go to the High Street, particularly during the festive season, and if residents know they can park for free it could be the boost the town needs.

“I remain committed to free parking being introduced across the town throughout the year, however, consider that cutting parking charges over the holiday period could demonstrate the benefits that free parking can bring for local communities and provide a welcome festive shot in the arm for businesses and residents alike.”
