September 9 2015.

Newhaven’s relief Severn Class lifeboat ‘RNLB Daniel L Gibson’ and her volunteer crew were launched on Monday at 11.55pm to search for a missing person.

The alarm was raised following a 999 call after a male had climbed the gate on Newhaven’s sandy West Beach with the intent to enter the water, after a domestic argument.

Newhaven lifeboat launched its inflatable Y boat which searched from the Hope Inn public house to the western sandy beach, along the West Breakwater and across to the East Pier.

The main lifeboat used its powerful spot lights to search from the Hope Inn public house, both sides of the West Breakwater plus down and back to Old Nore which is part way to Peacehaven.

The missing male was found safe and well by Sussex Police and the lifeboat was stood down at 00:45 on Tuesday 8th September.

The lifeboat then returned to station at 1:00am and was ready for service again at 1:35am.
