NEWHAVEN LIFEBOAT LAUNCHED TO BROKEN DOWN FISHING VESSEL

Newhaven’s relief Severn Class lifeboat ‘RNLB Daniel L Gibson’ and her volunteer crew were launched on Friday at 3.40pm to a broken down fishing vessel.


The 21ft dory fishing boat with one person on board was two miles south of the second of the Seven Sisters east of Cuckmere Haven.

The small leisure fishing boat had suffered mechanical failure and had contacted Solent coastguards requesting assistance via the VHF radio.

The lifeboat made best speed to the position given and once at the scene a tow line was successfully passed to the casualty.

The Newhaven based vessel was towed safely back to Newhaven Harbour.

The lifeboat return to station at 5:10pm, was refuelled and was ready for service at 5:40pm.
