Rod Main writes ref - 'MARIA SAYS STATUE TO HONOUR COMMUNIST DICTATOR SHOULD NOT BE A PRIORITY IN NEWHAVEN':
It's factually incorrect in several places as the mayor has already pointed out.
What surprises me is that Ms. Caulfield didn't think to check the accuracy of her statements with the Town Council offices in the first place. If she had then all the questions as to who created the competition, who is paying for it and whether or not it's a council priority could have been easily observed. Instead of which, Maria seems to be painting a poor image of herself.
Why do we need a statue? Because the Vietnamese embassy asked if they could give Newhaven one. Not sure it would help international relations if it was refused.
