MARIA CALLS FOR FREE PARKING IN NEWHAVEN

August 28 2015.

Local MP Maria Caulfield has asked Lewes District Council to drop all car parking charges at the multi-storey car park in Newhaven. The car park raises about £80,000 in revenue per annum for the Council. Maria has asked the Council to manage its resources differently so that the reduction in income to the District can be overcome.

Maria said: "The ring-road around Newhaven effectively cuts off the town centre. I want to see people encouraged to go to the High Street and if residents know they can park for free it could be the boost the town needs. I am asking the Council to consider this when they begin their budget discussions in the near future. The regeneration of Newhaven is a very important issue for me. I have established my local office in the town and eliminating parking charges in the town centre could be a real shot in the arm."
