MARIA BACKS LDC COASTAL COMMUNITY TEAMS INITIATIVE

July 5 2015.

Local MP Maria Caulfield has welcomed Lewes District Council’s involvement in the qovernment’s new ‘Coastal Community Teams’ Initiative.

The initiative is designed to encourage collaboration between organisations, businesses and the community to ensure that projects are delivered with maximum benefit for the area. Each Team will be allocated a grant to establish the group and produce an economic plan for their area.

Lewes District Council has prepared a bid to turn the ‘Impact Seaford’ regeneration project into a Coast Community Team along with supporting Newhaven Town Council in its bid to establish a team.

This initiative further highlights the government’s commitment to developing coastal communities as can be seen in the Newhaven Growth Quarter project on Denton Island which is being funded through a £1.9 million Coastal Communities Fund grant.

Maria commented; “I am delighted that LDC is becoming involved with the initiative and I am sure that it will have a positive effect on the regeneration work that is already under way.”
