ROTARY YOUNG PHOTOGRAPHERS COMPETITION

June 4 2015.

Mike Hemmings writes:

Another first for the Rotary Club of Seaford's Youth and Vocational Services Committee this year has been a Young Photographers Competition.  Entries were invited from three age groups, 7 – 10 years, 11 – 13 years, and 14 – 17 under the theme of Light up the Community.

Photographs were accepted in colour or black and white, either on photographic paper, or in digital format, and competitors were advised to use their imagination to show their interpretation of the chosen topic.

Faced with this challenge the photographs covered a wide range of topics and showed off very well the breadth of vision of the entrants in deciding what to submit.

The Club is indebted to Nick Wiseman of the Seaford Photographic Society for kindly judging all the entries and to Barry and Nigel Trigwell of Fotobox in Broad Street for all the assistance they gave in helping the organisers through this new venture.

The overall winner was Oscar Sodeau who is to be presented with the first prize of £50 by Club President Ray Hazan.

The two runners up were Elizabeth Duffy and Jamie Logan who will receive Fotobox vouchers, and the entries of all three will be displayed in the Fotobox window.

All the other entrants were given a small award to encourage their interest in photography and in the hope they will have another go when the competition is staged again later this year.
