DENTON COMMUNITY CHALLENGE - HOWZAT!

May 18 2015.

The annual Denton Community Challenge is all set to be even bigger and better this year, with the organising committee hard at work and promising plenty of fun, crafts, games and entertainment at the Avis Way recreation ground opposite Tates Garage in Newhaven on Saturday June the 6th from 1.00pm through to 5.00pm.

The theme this year is cricket and the event is running under the title of Howzat! - celebrating 150 years of County Cricket, with the Sussex County Cricket Club kindly donating a special raffle prize and former England and Sussex wicketkeeper Jim Parks the special guest on the day.

Something for everyone is promised, with stalls, a full programme of arena events and also a series of sporting challenges where children can win magnificent rosettes. The MC for the day will be popular local DJ and karaoke king, Keith Johnson. There will be a raffle with great prizes and separate draws for a pair of return Virgin Atlantic air tickets to New York. There is also a prize of a signed cricket bat from Sussex CCC.

For the second year running there will be a Craft Fair indoors at the Denton Social Centre adjacent to the field, with plenty of interesting craft stalls.

There is also a cake competition and homemade cakes should be taken to the social centre no later than 12 noon on the day in time for judging.

The opening ceremony will be at 1.00pm and will be performed by Jim Parks and Norman Baker.

Admission to both the Denton Challenge and the Craft Fair is free for all.

Howzat! is one of the largest charity events in the Haven area, with the proceeds being divided between three local charities:

THE JAMES DANIEL MEMORIAL FUND
set up after 19 year-old James’ tragic death in 2005. Local schools and sports clubs are invited to apply for funds to assist the purchase of equipment and coaching aids to encourage the development of sporting activities for children and youth groups in Denton and the surrounding areas.

FRIENDS AND ASSOCIATES OF DENTON SCHOOL (FADS) raise much-needed funds to purchase items for the school.

ST LEONARD'S CHURCH, DENTON. One of Sussex’s historic churches dating back to 1288. It is a Bible teaching church and serves the community in a number of ways.
