Police in Seaford are reminding residents of the dangers of giving work to cold callers and letting strangers into their homes after a theft in Cricketfield Road last Friday (March 27th).

At about 11am a man knocked on the door of a lady in her late eighties stating that he had come to clean her gutters, even though she had not made any such arrangement. The man was then allowed into the house and into the rear to inspect the work and quoted £60 for the work which the victim agreed to and paid him. The victim was then distracted when the man asked her for a cup of tea. He then said he was going to get his tools but never returned. The victim subsequently discovered that approximately £400 in cash was missing from the house.

The man is described as white, 5' 10" and in his late thirties. He had short dark hair.

Sergeant Stuart Mullins said: "The whole of Seaford is a designated No cold calling zone and any cold calling offering to do work or to sell things is heavily discouraged. I would urge all residents to never give work to anyone who just happens to knock on their door and always seek personal recommendations before employing people. Try to never let strangers into your home and if it is unavoidable make sure that they are supervised at all times."
