OUTLAWS STEAL ROTARY CROWN

March 31 2015.

Mike Hemmings reports:

The Rotary Club of Seaford held its annual Charity Quiz Night on Friday the 27th of March and once again a competitive, friendly and amusing evening was enjoyed by all. St Leonard’s Church Hall was packed as 16 teams battled for the trophy and honour of first place. Our Quiz Mistress, Michele Roper, kept the questions flowing and was gratefully and ably supported by a team of scorers and helpers.

After the last round of questions, the teams waited to hear the final scores, hoping for a win, and in some cases hoping not to be last. First place went to The Outlaws, who retained the trophy they had won last year. They scored an impressive 57 out of 80, with the Von Trapps, a team of our friends from the Seaford Martello Rotary Club second with 51. The Welly Wanderers, last year’s runners up but previous winners finished in third with 50. At the interval the teams sat down to a welcoming meal and a big thank you to all those who prepared, cooked and served the food. It was enjoyed by all.

Towards the end of the evening the raffle was drawn and the wonderful range of prizes were handed out to the lucky winners. The raffle prizes were generously donated by Eastbourne Devonshire Park Theatre, Diella’s restaurant, Millies of Seaford, Swindells Accountants, Church Lane Flowers and Morrison’s.

The evening concluded with a heartfelt thank you from the President of Seaford Rotary Club, Ray Hazan, and the team with the lowest score (who will not be named to avoid any embarrassment) received their “Last Place” prizes. The Outlaws received their trophy and bottles of wine and the evening was over for another year, but with much talk about returning in 2016 to do better. As well as all of this, the event raised almost £500 for charities and worthy causes.
