NEWHAVEN LIFEBOAT LAUNCHED TO RESCUE ANGLING VESSEL

Newhaven’s Severn Class lifeboat RNLB David and Elizabeth Acland and her volunteer crew were launched on Tuesday at 3:20pm to assist an 18ft angling vessel with two people on board which had experienced engine failure due to overheating.


The small angling vessel was approximately wo miles south of the Seven Sisters cliffs. Both crew on board the casualty vessel were uninjured.

Newhaven lifeboat was alongside the vessel within 25 minutes and a tow was quickly established.

The casualty vessel was then safely towed into Newhaven harbour.

The casualty then motored the short way to the main slipway pontoon at Newhaven Marina using the engine which had cooled by that time.

Newhaven lifeboat was then stood down at 4:35pm and returned to station and was again ready for service at 5.00pm.
