NORMAN CALLS FOR FREE PARKING IN NEWHAVEN

November 10 2014.

Norman Baker is calling on Lewes District Council to provide free car parking in Newhaven to support local businesses. Norman is asking LDC to consider free short stay parking in the two town centre car parks for two hours to encourage people to pop into the town centre and use facilities, shops and services.

Norman explains: “I appreciate car parking provides an important income stream for Lewes District Council, but we have now reached the position where drastic action is needed to help the town centre in Newhaven.

“Free parking would bring more people into the High Street and in turn would encourage more businesses to open and stay in the town.”

Norman recently helped open I Like a Sweetie in Newhaven High Street and would like to see more support for other business to do the same and bring people back into the centre of Newhaven.

He added: “It is great that people are committing to new business in the High Street. We now need the council to do all it can to help them make a success of it.”
