NEWHAVEN LIFEBOAT LAUNCHED TO CHARTER FISHING BOAT

October 7 2014.

Newhaven’s Severn Class lifeboat RNLB David and Elizabeth Acland and her volunteer crew were launched on the 4th of October at 1:45am to assist a ten metre charter fishing vessel which had experienced electrical failure.

The casualty vessel dropped her anchor five miles south, south west of Newhaven harbour.

Newhaven lifeboat was alongside the vessel within 30 minutes of the crew being paged. It was quickly established that the three crew were all well. Newhaven lifeboat attempted to recover the casualty’s fouled anchor, but the line parted.

A tow was established and the casualty was safely towed backed to Newhaven Marina and handed over into the care of HM Coastguard.

Newhaven lifeboat returned to station and was again ready for service at 3:35am.
