PORT PROPOSALS - MAIL

September 8 2014

GOOD NEWS BUT....
The answers I would like to hear are:

(1) Has anybody EVER asked Newhaven Port the question WHY won’t they repair the wall around, and the steps down to, the sand beach so it can be opened and safely used again?

(2) Do they EVER intend to carry out those repairs before the wall collapses and the promenade with it, so that the promenade then becomes a “no-go-area”?

INHERIT THE WIND

This is excellent news for Newhaven and I would like to congratulate NPP on its plans.

It is clear that the opportunities that are emerging following the successful bid for the O & M activities surrounding the Rampion Windfarm have made a huge contribution to these proposals.

It still seems unbelievable that some prospective and existing UKIP Councillors continue to remain vehemently against the EON development and the clear advantages it has for the economy and jobs in our area, together with obvious benefits to the environment.

THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE COFFEE
The interesting thing will be to see the precise plans.

In principle, replacing the (crumbling) East pier with something more substantial and widening the entrance, building a new 300m "multi-purpose" wharf sounds like a good thing. IF the port access road allows them to develop a
better ferry terminal and waiting area, then I'm sure it will benefit cross-channel traffic. IF they are simply building this as a way for expanding general port operations... well, it wouldn't be bad, but they could be missing a trick to improve the ferry accessibility.

Of course, people are still concerned about the beach. Really, if NPP want the Newhaven public on-side for any new developments, they should just get on with opening the beach and repairing the steps. They need to
wake up, stop prevaricating and smell the coffee.
