HAVEN ON TOUR

Seaford and Newhaven have an exciting opportunity to get their names known throughout the nation, even if only for a short while, with the imminent Tour of Britain Stage 7 running through town on Saturday the 13th of September. 
The race pushes off from Camberley at 10.00am, following a route through Haslemere, Horsham, Haywards Heath, Uckfield, Hailsham, Eastbourne, SEAFORD, NEWHAVEN, Lewes, Ditchling Beacon and finishing in Brighton at approximately 3:30pm.

Arriving in Seaford on the A259 Suton Road at around 2.15pm, on to Dane Road at the station and onto the seafront and Marine Parade, rejoining the A259 at Bishopstone, through Newhaven around 2.25pm and then to Lewes on the Rodmell road. These roads will be shut to traffic around these times.

Seaford is taking the opportunity to have a community day event to show support and to bring the whole town together. Do what the French do at their own tour and take a picnic and make a day of it!

There is a live broadcast on the ‘Big Screen’ of the day’s events leading to an evening showing of the Lego movie for all the family, presented  by Seaford Community Cinema.

A  funfair will run all day to thrill and excite, Cycle Seahaven will also be free bike tune ups and check-ups and there will be some bike orientated exercise classes for people to get a taste of. There will be cycle ride outs by Cycle Seahaven and cycle train journeys will also be held by Sustrans and the Cycle Train team. There will even be some lessons available for those wanting to improve their cycling skills.

If you are worried about parking arrangements, don’t be, there will be plenty. You are however recommend to walk or ride to your destination wherever possible. Also avoid parking on the race route, which can be viewed in the local information available from the Tourist Information Centre.

If the weather is fine the council is aiming to provide a ‘‘Park and Ride your Bike" facility that will be available from the Martello Fields, and there will be cycle parking facilities available at The Salts as well as the usual spots around the town.

In Newhaven the Fete de Newhaven will run in the High Street from 9.00am through to 4.00pm with a number of cycle themed attractions.
