NEWHAVEN LIFEBOAT LAUNCHED TO MOTOR VESSEL WITH MECHANICAL FAILURE

Newhaven’s Severn Class relief lifeboat ‘RNLB Volunteer Spirit’ was launched on Tuesday at 6:15pm to assist a six metre leisure vessel that had experienced a gearbox failure.


The small angling vessel with two people on board had suffered a gearbox failure approximately five miles south of Newhaven. Both crew on board the casualty vessel were uninjured.

Newhaven lifeboat was alongside the vessel within 20 minutes and a tow was quickly established. The casualty vessel was then safely towed into Newhaven harbour and moored alongside the visitor’s pontoon on the eastern side of Newhaven Marina.

Newhaven lifeboat was again ready for service at 8:15pm.
