Artwave, the annual summer visual arts festival in East Sussex, supported by Lewes District Council, with 100 artists’ houses, studios and galleries opening their doors to welcome visitors to view art, meet artists and visit places not usually open to the public. Now celebrating its 21st birthday, Artwave is an intriguing and vibrant open house festival with over 400 artists taking part.

2014 exhibition highlights include “The Photographer’s Eye”, a photographic exhibition held in four locations across Newhaven, “Fresh Paint at the Foundry”, the largest ever exhibition of The Sussex Watercolour Society, and “Toys and Games” an exhibition of interactive craft works created by makers at Blind Veterans UK in Ovingdean.

There is a programme of events that covers The Sussex Guild’s Open Weekend, Art Flicks, an artists’ film night, ICE, an arts and craft fair in Isfield and The Phoenix Festival in Lewes. Many venues offer demonstrations and classes too. On Saturday 23 August you can join a free outdoor life drawing session in Lewes’ beautiful Southover Grange Gardens with all the materials provided. On the last Friday, 5 September there is a talk by the three photographers of “The Photographer’s Eye” exhibition at the RNLI in Newhaven.
