NEWHAVEN LIFEBOAT LAUNCHED TO YACHT WITH ENGINE FAILURE

July 7 2014.

Newhaven’s Severn Class relief lifeboat ‘RNLB Volunteer Spirit’ was launched on Saturday at 9:50am to assist a yacht that had suffered an engine failure.

The 10.5 metre yacht with two people on board had suffered the engine failure approximately three miles south east of Newhaven, whilst the Newhaven lifeboat crew was preparing the lifeboat and boathouse for its annual fund raising fete. (See story below).

Newhaven lifeboat was immediately launched and quickly located the yacht and established a tow. The casualty vessel was then safely towed into Newhaven harbour and moored alongside the fuelling pontoon north of the lifeboat station.

Newhaven lifeboat was again ready for service at 11:00am and the lifeboat crew continued with Fete preparations.
