SAM CALLS FOR HEALTH SERVICES RE-THINK

June 30 2014.

Seaford Councillor Sam Adeniji, a leading campaigner for improved health services in Seaford, has criticised the decision by the local Clinical Commissioning Group to permanently remove maternity and paediatric services from Eastbourne District General Hospital.

Sam says: “I am disappointed by the decision of the Eastbourne, Hailsham and Seaford Clinical Commissioning Group to permanently switch consultant-led maternity and paediatric services from Eastbourne DGH to Hastings. This decision is not good news for us, the people of Seaford.

“We have been campaigning for years for more health services to be provided locally in, or closer, to Seaford. This decision by the CCG means Seafordians will now have to travel further for consultant-led maternity and paediatric services.

“Seaford has been let down yet again by the local CCG. Last year we were told that physiotherapy will no longer be provided in Seaford. All we get from the CCG are promises of improved health services in Seaford, but unfortunately the CCG do not match their words with their deeds.

“This CCG decision is subject to approval by the East Sussex Health Overview Scrutiny Committee, and I publicly urge members of that committee to reject this decision by the CCG and refer the matter to the Secretary of State for Health.”
