June 24 2014.

CTLA (Community Transport) charity based in Newhaven is celebrating the registration of the 100th member of the Lewes Travel Club, which was created in January 2014 to supplement is well established Havens Travel Club for older people.

Seaford, Newhaven, Peacehaven, Telscombe Cliffs and Lewes area residents can enjoy free membership to the charity initiatives, which aim to reduce isolation and loneliness in older people. A monthly newsletter is sent out listing all the upcoming trips, which currently include Firle Place and Tea Rooms, Farmers Markets, Camelia Botnor Home and Gardens, Sovereign Harbour and Sheffield Park and Gardens (Lewes Club), Tea with Robin Cousins, Godalming Horse Drawn Barge and Cream Tea and many more.

Members simply book and pay for the reasonably priced trips that they wish to go on and CTLA fully accessible minibuses pick up and drop off members from home.

Feedback received from members includes :

“Honestly I don’t know what I would do without CTLA - they are more than a life-line for me. Who would want to be stuck indoors on their own, day after day?"

"CTLA take me to lunch clubs where I have made new friends - I wouldn’t otherwise be able to get to these clubs, as I am not on a bus route and couldn’t afford the taxi fare."

“Life without CTLA would be absolutely hopeless! I have difficulties with getting out and about and my mobility is getting worse. CTLA has been a god send for me. Without my wonderful days out I would be stuck at home alone having too much time on my hands to worry about things. I have made some wonderful friends who I look forward to seeing and joining was the best thing I have ever done."
