MARTELLO ROTARY CLUB OF SEAFORD BUILDS A DIRECTIONAL PLAQUE ON SEAFORD SEAFRONT

June 18 2014.

The Martello Rotary Club of Seaford recently commissioned a directional plaque on the seafront at Seaford with a legacy from the late Claire Ivory, a Past President of the club , who sadly passed away in 2009.

Claire had a great interest in Rotary the world over and the plaque is a direction and distance indicator showing the direction and distance in miles from Seaford of cities located in the geographical areas of Greenland, America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia.

Supporting the project, Seaford Town Council approved its ownership of the plaque in October 2013, ensuring that this interesting feature will become a recognised part of Seaford’s seafront for years to come.

The current president of Martello Rotary Club, Janice Vince, said at the recent unveiling: “This directional plaque has taken a long time to get to this stage. I would like to thank Rotarian Tony Renyolds for making sure all the correct information went to the correct place and for project managing the plaque. I would also like to thank Rotarians Shaughn Arkwell and Clive Rimell, for building the plaque in such fine style. The plaque is granite and was engraved for us by Tilley’s Stonemasons of Brighton.”

Claire's brothers unveiled the plaque, which was gifted by Seaford Martello Rotary club to the Town of Seaford.

Seaford Town Council Mayor, Councillor Mark Brown said: “Seaford Town Council would like to thank Martello Rotary Club and the late Claire Ivory for this wonderful addition to the seafront. The Town Council will gladly take on its future maintenance. ”
