Care for the Carers (CFTC) is a charity that supports adult and young unpaid carers in East Sussex, providing advice, information, signposting, counselling, befriending, group support, training, forums and providing an opportunity for carers’ voices to be heard. CFTC also work within GP surgeries and hospitals to raise carer awareness.

For young carers CFTC provides one to one support, clubs, trips and activities, alongside working in schools to raise awareness.

CFTC currently has young carers clubs in Eastbourne, Hastings and Laughton and is now aiming to open new clubs in Crowborough and Newhaven. The clubs provide young carers with an opportunity to meet and have fun with other young carers. It is a relaxed setting where they can be supported if they wish, or just simply enjoy activities and get a nutritional meal.

The Newhaven club will be held fortnightly on a Monday evening from 5.00pm to 7.00pm and CFTC is now in urgent need of volunteers for:

- Drivers to collect young carers, take them to the club and return them home

- Club support to engage with club activities

- Cooks to provide the young people with a nutritional meal

(Drivers could also do club support)

This would be an ideal opportunity for people looking to move forward into working with young children, or for those who enjoy the company of young people and want to make a difference.

Ideally volunteers will have an understanding of boundaries, confidentiality, child protection and basic risk assessment would also be an advantage. However, training will be provided. A sense of humour would also be helpful.

Drivers will need to have a clean driving licence and a good, reliable car.

The application process to become a volunteer is:

- An application form

- An informal interview

- A Disclosure & Barring check (formerly CRB)

- References x 2

Travel expenses will be paid.
