NEWHAVEN LIFEBOAT TASKED TO YACHT WITH ENGINE FAILURE

April 30 2014.

Newhaven’s Severn Class lifeboat ‘RNLB David and Elizabeth Acland’ was on a joint training exercise with Coastguard Helicopter Rescue 104 when they were tasked to a yacht with engine failure on Sunday.

The eight metre yacht with two persons on board had experienced mechanical failure and had lost all power from its engine. The casualty had made way to south of Newhaven breakwater using their sails.

Newhaven lifeboat was already in the area and proceeded to the casualty at 11:45 am and established a tow. The vessel was then safely towed into Newhaven harbour and was placed on the visitors berth in the marina.

The lifeboat then returned to station and was again ready for service at 12:55pm

* Haven News was on board the lifeboat at the time of the rescue and will shortly be producing a photo report on the exercise with the Coastguard helicopter and the above rescue.
