CYCLIST TRIAL SCHEME TO START IN SEAFORD

April 2 20014

A trial scheme that will see cyclists and pedestrians sharing a section of Seaford promenade will start on April 13th.

Cyclists will be able to use the section of the promenade between Edinburgh Road and the Martello Tower throughout the summer. During this period, members of the public will be asked for their views on whether the change should be permanent.

“This is great opportunity to encourage more people to cycle in Seaford. Our experience with other seafront schemes of this type in the County has been very positive.” said Cllr Carl Maynard, East Sussex County Council's Lead Member for Transport and Environment.

“Rather than asking people what they think of a potential scheme, running it as a trial will enable the public to try-it-out and give us feedback based on their views before any decision is made as to whether or not it should be made permanent."

A launch event for the trial scheme will take place on Sunday, April 13.

The 'Share with Care’ event will be held at the Martello Tower between 10am to 4pm and will be attended by representatives of Seaford Town Council, Cycle Seahaven, East Sussex County Council and Sustrans.

During the trial scheme people will be able to give their views by filling in an online questionnaire at www.eastsussex.gov.uk/haveyoursay

Copies of the questionnaire are also available from Seaford Library and Seaford Tourist Information Centre. Those using the seafront will also be asked for their views at various times during the trial.

The consultation on the trial is due to close on Friday, October 17th and a decision about whether to make the scheme permanent or not will be made, taking into account all responses received.
