SOUPER LIFEBOAT DAY

February 3 2014.

The hardy souls of the local community refused to allow the  wet and windy weather  to prevent them from showing their support for Newhaven Lifeboat, when the national RNLI SOS fundraising day last Friday was celebrated locally at Newhaven Lifeboat House with the ever-popular annual Slurp Our Soup event.

Visitors to the Lifeboat House at Riverside, West Quay, were, as always, welcomed with warming soup and cheese rolls. Kind donations by Waitrose Supermarket in Lewes and Sainsbury’s Supermarket in Newhaven and the freshly baked bread rolls were also generously supplied and donated by Graham Southgate of La Baguette Shop bakery in Newhaven.

The first fundraising event of the year organised by Newhaven & District Lifeboat Society was well attended by almost 100 people and raised a total of £371.85. Graham Hillman, Secretary for the fundraising society, said: ‘We are always so pleased to see so many people supporting Newhaven Lifeboat, especially given the weather conditions. We hope the event brightened the dull day for those attending.’
