SOUPER LIFEBOAT FUNDRAISER

January 16 2014.

The RNLI Newhaven volunteer lifeboat crew has already seen an active start to the new year, having been called out to assist a fishing vessel in difficulty, and the Newhaven & District Lifeboat Society Fundraisers are also starting the fundraising action for 2014 on Friday the 31st of January.

SOS Day is the Royal National Lifeboat Institution’s national fundraising day and it’s all about getting involved and doing something fun while helping to raise lifesaving funds. All around the country Lifeboat stations are raising funds using the acronym of SOS.

At Newhaven Boathouse, Riverside, West Quay, there will be a "Slurp Our Soup" event from 11.30am to 2.00pm. For just £3.50 you can enjoy warm soup and friendly chatter plus a freshly baked roll from a local bakery.

Secretary for Newhaven & District Fundraising Society, Paula Hillman, said: "We want to brighten up a traditionally dull month and kick start our fundraising for 2014. It is a perfect opportunity to meet the fundraising team and, hopefully, inspire others to join in too. Last year was a particularly difficult year for the volunteer crew, but the visit to the area from the Queen did much to lift the spirits of the whole town."
