Charlotte Crookston, former Young Mayor of Newhaven, presented a cheque to Dyslexia Action at her farewell Council meeting last Tuesday evening. This was one of two charities that Charlotte decided to give money to from her fundraising efforts during her time as Young Mayor.

The other charity Charlotte chose was Rockinghorse (Royal Alexandra Hospital for Children, Brighton) and on Wednesday Charlotte went to the hospital to present this cheque too.

Her fundraising activity has opened up some new opportunities for Charlotte; Dyslexia Action has asked Charlotte to be involved in some of their projects and Rockinghorse has asked her to become involved with the Teenage Youth Centre attached to the hospital. Both charities are also keen to support Charlotte’s town council project to set up a new online counselling service for young people.

Newhaven’s new Young Mayor is 15 year old Connor Dartnell. Connor’s first engagement as Young Mayor was to lay a wreath for the town council at the Remembrance Day commemorations.
