GROMMIT TO GRUMPY
As someone who has the dubious privilege of living in Newhaven High Street, I would heartily agree with the sentiment that all is not well here, but I would suggest that the problem is not the fact that the High Street has been sidelined by what would now be considered enormous amounts of traffic, but by the fact that, contrary to going to Lidl, Sainsburys or Morrisons, you have to PAY to go to the High Street in Newhaven.

Taking Cliffe High Street in Lewes as a comparison, that is also now semi-pedestrianised, but has a "free" car park just a few yards away at Tesco. I know there is a paying car park nearer, but those that know use Tesco's. That part of Lewes is doing quite nicely I believe. A small survey there would be quite enlightening I think.

SUPPORT FOR GRUMPY

I am full of sympathy for Mr Grumpy's views on car access to The High Street. Senior citizens sometimes have great difficulty in reaching shops. Every consideration should be given to them and banning cars from the high st would only make life more difficult for them.

Mr Baker should reconsider and remember that he needs all the votes he can get and the High St is an essential part of our daily life as well as our cars. The two go together.
If people want to walk no-one is stopping them. A little ozone from an exhaust pipe won't do too much harm.
Let's think of others.

Mr Support.
