REVIVED NEWHAVEN MARKET ATTRACTS LARGE TURNOUT

August 10 2013.

A rejuvenated Newhaven Town Centre Market opened this morning to a large turnout of stall holders and also hundreds of people keen to snap-up a bargain at the diverse outlets.

Some 30 stalls added to the normal two regular greengrocer and bric-a-brac pitches that the town centre normally attracts, and ranging from fresh produce and unusual breads from around the world, fresh Spanish Tapas, German pastries, holistic therapy, exotic cooking oils, fresh flowers, local music shop Maestro Music, fashion items and several bric-a-brac stands selling new and second-hand items.

Furthest travelled was Brentford, Essex-based Patisserie and Bakery McCarthys, whose owner Tony McCarthy made the 71-mile trip - via Eastbourne - to show his extensive range of breads, pastries and hand-made pies and pasties. He said: "So far, I've been absolutely rushed-off my feet and I've only been here for two hours as I got here a bit late! It's really good though and so far, we've had a great reception from Newhaven residents. We will definitely do this again."
